The UK has spent this week showing off its sporting prowess, as the culture secretary, Karen Bradley urged cities across the country to bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The UK Government will work with interested cities and the relevant Commonwealth Games Associations on a detailed assessment of whether Britain can step in to host the event in 2022 after it was announced last month that Durban in South Africa can no longer hold the games.

Similarly, the UK’s Department of International trade will work with the Peruvian government to make sure that Peru receive UK support and knowledge-transfer in order to successfully organise and deliver the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

Lastly, Boomtown Fair, the music festival, and three of its subcontractors, will be conducting a sound barrier experiment, with the aim of achieving maximum sound pressure levels on site for audience enjoyment, whilst maintaining minimal sound disturbance for surrounding areas. The aim is to find an industry standard for all festivals and events to manage their sound levels more effectively.
