Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 world champion, has launched Greentech Festival – a green technology event taking place over the Berlin Formula E race weekend at Tempelhof Airport, May 23-25.

Alongside partners Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger, Rosberg announced the three-day festival this week which is expecting more than 50,000 visitors and will feature an exhibition of green technologies and a conference regarding sustainability. The festival will be located in the Allianz eVillage, the fan zone used at all Formula E circuit venues and is intended to cater for both industry specialists and the general public.

The centrepiece of the event will be the Green Awards, which has recognised innovative green projects for 12 years. The awards celebrate clean-energy projects and include Bob Geldof and Elon Musk as past winners and named Rosberg Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018.

Rosberg commented: “With the Greentech Festival, we strive to bring the immense potential of green technologies to life and to inspire as many people as possible to accelerate positive change.

“It is not just the automotive industry that has high technical and performance-driven requirements these days. Many companies have long been following the important shift towards green technologies. But this development will only be implemented if all of us support this movement – that’s why I fight for it.”

Alejandro Agag, Formula E chairman, added: “I’m delighted to welcome the Greentech Festival during the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium on May 25. Together we will be even stronger in fighting climate change by showcasing and working towards compelling solutions to air pollution, breaking down the barriers to further progress technology, perception and infrastructure.

“Using the unique platform of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is a perfect match to reach out to the next generation with the Greentech eVillage.”
