Lance Show and Publications, organiser of The Showman’s Show has created a “hub” at this year’s event (Newbury Showground, October 18-19) that will slowly focus on sustainable best practice.

The new space will play host to the second meeting of Vision:2025 Festivals, an initiative launched by industry steering group Powerful Thinking, which brings festivals together with the aim of working towards a more sustainable industry.

On the afternoon of October 18, Powerful Thinking’s Festival Vision meeting entitled: Sustainability Skills and Knowledge Update will see 60 of the UK’s festivals, which have pledged to work together to improve environmental performance, share ideas and experiences and find out about the latest innovations in the industry.

On the agenda for the meeting is a keynote session from Ben Robinson, director of From the Fields, who will share his experience of engaging the Bluedot Festival audience with their sustainability goals. A session on industry updates and innovations such as the launch of NCASS’s new trader carbon calculator and re-launch of food waste project 8th Plate, developments in solar lighting, Julie’s Bicycle on its Creative Green Certification and the latest research on using biofuels at events, and how festivals are turning travel emissions into renewable energy with charity Energy Revolution will also be discussed.

Commenting on hosting the Festival Vision: 2025 meeting, event director, Johnny Lance said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Vision: 2025 Festivals to the Show. Improving sustainability across the outdoor event and festival industry is a key concern for many of our exhibitors and visitors and doing our bit to promote it wherever we can, is important to us. This is just one of a number of sustainable initiatives and partnerships that we have in place for 2017.”
