The GL events UK Group has appointed Tony Gelsthorpe as company health and safety manager. The hire comes as part of the organisation’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of work, professionalism and customer care across its client contracts.

Gelsthorpe joins the company from construction business Van Elle, having previously gained experience across multiple industries as a health and safety professional. His experience includes leadership roles at Therco, DAS Technology and Griffith Laboratories, as well as being a trainer and auditor of Apple Industrial Safety.

He also brings with him a wealth of accreditations, including the successful implementation and maintenance of ISOs 9001:2008, 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007, experience that will give GL events’ clients added confidence when it comes to crowd and customer safety. As part of his remit, Gelsthorpe will deliver internal training programmes and has provided CITB health and safety training across a range of industries throughout his career.

“For us, health and safety isn’t just a box-ticking exercise,” comments Scott Jameson, GL events UK Group managing director. “Our clients care a great deal about the health and wellbeing of their stakeholders, and so do we. Bringing Tony on board is an indication of our ambition and commitment to the very highest standards of business performance and delivery, and to supporting our clients in every area, above and beyond the infrastructure that we provide.”

As well as ensuring excellence and knowledge across all builds and installations undertaken by the company, Gelsthorpe will provide customers with up-to-date legal and best practice information to ensure that both GL events, and its partners and customers, are adhering to the highest and most recent health and safety standards. He will oversee the sharing of information within GL events UK’s business and its network of clients and partners.
